Marcus Reid has spent fifteen years doing one thing better than anything else: teaching young hockey players how to skate the way the game is actually played now — fast, on their edges, and under pressure.
The building blocks: forward/backward edges, inside/outside control, proper knee bend under load, and the fundamentals every advanced skater eventually returns to. Small group, video review after each session, cone-and-cue teaching progressions kids actually remember. 4-session block, Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 PM.
The single most under-taught skill in youth hockey: the tight turn. This session isolates crossover mechanics — outside-edge push, inside-leg drive, hip rotation, and recovery — and pairs it with tight-turn footwork drills that translate directly into puck-protection and evading pressure in game situations. High-rep, low-lecture. Single 75-minute session, Saturdays.
For committed players entering elite streams. Deep work on backward transitions, mohawk turns, escapes under contact, and skating with the puck at real game speeds. Includes two on-ice video sessions and per-player skating analysis. This block runs through the pre-season and is designed to have your skating in a different place by the time tryouts arrive. 6-session block, Sunday mornings.
"My daughter used to be the slowest skater on her team. After eight weeks with Marcus she was leading breakouts. The technical detail he gets into is next level — this is not a generic skating class, it is real coaching."
"Marcus is the first coach who explained WHY a tight turn works instead of just telling my son to do it more. He made his AAA team this year and credits the edge work directly."
"I went from being scared of contact along the boards to actually winning races to loose pucks. The crossover drills changed how I skate completely."
Spots are limited to keep groups small and reps high. Message me directly through RinkIQ or by email to check current availability before registering for a session.
